Haas CNC Chip Clearing Fans

Haas CNC Chip Clearing Fans are the perfect complementary tools for all CNC machines, big and small, for short runs or production. They are engineered to provide the best results possible, when it comes to removing machined material chips, coolant, and other debris from your workpiece or fixture. The fans have a steel cylindrical shank that can be mounted into your collet chuck or end mill holder.

Once your new Haas chip clearing fan is installed into your toolholder and mounted in the machine spindle, use your machine control to do the cleaning unattended between machining cycles – eliminating chip accumulation, without compromising labor and machine time.

  • High-quality steel cylindrical shank with Weldon flat, for use in a collet chuck or end mill toolholder
  • Through-tool coolant capability to wash parts before using the fan
  • Durable fan blades made of glass fiber reinforced nylon for wear resistance and durability
  • Affordable, automatic cleaning tool designed to be disassembled, if replacement parts are necessary

How to operate - CAUTION! Never exceed the rated operating speed!

For safe operation, always operate the chip clearing fans within the stated RPM ranges, and only use in fully enclosed machines, with all guarding in place.

  1. Mount the chip clearing fan in a toolholder rated for the operating RPM, and set a tool length offset as you would for any other cutting tool (with blades closed).
  2. Program the chip clearing fan as you would a face mill cutting tool. We recommend starting the spindle at 1800-2000 rpm for 1/2 second, and then ramping up the spindle speed within the fan’s operating range.
  3. We recommend using through-spindle coolant (if the machine is equipped) to pre-clean large piles of heavy chips or small swarf in tapped holes. To simplify programming, we’ve added a VPS template (Table Wash Cycle) in the Haas control.*
  4. Fan blades will open when the spindle is started at the recommended RPM. Program a toolpath to clear chips and coolant, as necessary.
    a. Part Number 09-0028 (Long) operating speed 5000 – 8000 rpm – DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM OPERATING SPEED! Recommended speed: 7500 rpm.
    b. Part Number 09-0029 (Short) operating speed 6000 – 12,000 rpm – DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM OPERATING SPEED! Recommended speed: 9000 rpm.
  5. Always use safe machining practices to avoid premature failure of the cleaning fan.

CAUTION: Do not exceed the maximum rated rpm, or run for extended periods at max rpm. Always start fan at 1800-2000 rpm, and ramp up to operating speed.

WARNING! Accelerating the fan directly to max rpm will shorten the life of the blades, and could result in catastrophic failure and injury.

* If your machine’s control does not have the template built in, you can download the template below. Install the template into the My VPS folder, and access it via the VPS CUSTOM folder. (VPS Template compatible with NGC control only.)
