Gauge Blocks Overview

Gauge blocks may seem simple, but in this video, Mark shows us the genius behind them. Gauge blocks are also a great way to hone your measurement skills and make sure you're using hand measurement tools properly.

Gauge Blocks

Haas gauge blocks are a fundamental tool in manufacturing and quality control applications. Engineered with exceptional accuracy and precision, they provide a reliable, repeatable standard for dimensional measurement and calibration.

These blocks are available in two material options: high-carbon, high-chromium steel with a hardness of ≥ 63 HRC, or high-quality ceramic with a hardness of approximately 1250 HV, offering excellent wear resistance and long-term stability.

Each gauge block set is manufactured in accordance with ASME B89.1.9 and DIN EN ISO 3650, and includes a detailed inspection report to verify accuracy and compliance.

Sets Are Available in the Following Specifications:

  • 36-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, AS-0 & AS-1 Grades, 0.05" - 4" (U.S. Only)
  • 81-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, AS-0 & AS-1 Grades, 0.1001" - 4" (U.S. Only)
  • 47-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, AS-0 & AS-1 Grades, 1.005mm - 100mm
  • 83-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, AS-0 & AS-1 Grades, 0.5mm - 100mm

Steel

Steel gauge blocks are a widely used and highly durable option for precision measurement in manufacturing and quality control. Manufactured from high-carbon, high-chromium steel with a hardness of ≥ 63 HRC, they offer excellent toughness and a familiar wringing “feel” that many technicians prefer in day-to-day use. Steel blocks are also more cost-effective and widely available, making them a practical choice for general inspection and shop-floor calibration. However, they require proper maintenance to prevent corrosion and can experience gradual wear over long periods of heavy use.

  • 36-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, 0 & AS-1 Grades, 0.05” – 4” (U.S. Only)
  • 81-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, 0 & AS-1 Grades, 0.05” – 4” (U.S. Only)
  • 47-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, 0 & 1 Grades, 1mm – 100mm
  • 83-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, 0 & 1 Grades, 0.5 mm – 100mm

Ceramic

Ceramic gauge blocks are designed for superior long-term stability and wear resistance in demanding or controlled environments. Manufactured from advanced ceramic material, they offer exceptional hardness, typically around 1250 HV, along with excellent resistance to wear, corrosion, and environmental effects such as humidity and temperature variation. This makes them especially well-suited for applications where long-term dimensional stability is critical and maintenance requirements need to be minimized. While they are more expensive and slightly more brittle than steel, ceramic gauge blocks provide a high level of consistency and durability over time, making them ideal for high-precision metrology use.

  • 36-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, AS-1 Grade, 0.05” – 4” (U.S. Only)
  • 81-Piece, Inch Gauge Block Set, AS-1 Grade, 0.05” – 4” (U.S. Only)
  • 46-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, Grade 1, 1.001mm – 100mm
  • 87-Piece, Metric Gauge Block Set, Grade 1, 0.5mm – 100mm

Grade 0 | High-Precision Calibration

Made to the highest grade of precision with extremely tight tolerances, offering unmatched accuracy. This grade is the primary calibration standard in laboratories and for critical applications where maximum precision is essential for maintaining quality and precision in dimensional measurements.

AS-1 / Grade 1 | High-Precision Calibration

Used in general industrial applications, where high precision is required, but have slightly larger tolerances than the AS-0 grade gauge blocks. AS-1 gauge blocks play an important role in maintaining accuracy, consistency, and precision in a wide range of industrial applications, where precise dimensional measurements are essential for quality control and manufacturing processes.
