Haas Indexable Dovetail Cutters
Haas indexable dovetail cutters are available in several shank sizes, with a variety of cutting diameters. These premium indexable dovetail cutters have precision shanks, and accept standard D-style (55° rhombic) turning inserts, which are available in Haas grades suitable for machining most materials.
All cutter bodies have a 60° included angle, and are suitable for cutting dovetails and chamfers, as well as light face milling operations. Cutters are 3-flute or 4-flute, depending on size, and the insert inscribed circle (IC) is determined by the specific cutter body.
Dovetail cutters are specialized tools for cutting angled or trapezoidal-shaped grooves (dovetails) into a workpiece. They are used to cut the male and female parts of dovetail joints for industrial slides, as well as for cutting bevels and undercuts, and for deburring parts.
Dovetail cutters are also used to cut external features on workpieces for clamping in dovetail-style workholding. The dovetail creates a strong and secure area for clamping, while sacrificing minimal raw material, allowing more surface area of the part to be exposed to the cutting tool. This makes dovetails a great way to securely hold your workpiece during 5-axis operations.
APPLICATIONS:
- Dovetail slots for industrial slides
- External features for workholding
- Detailed undercuts
- Deburring
TIPS:
- Rough slots with an end mill first
- Calculate speeds based on the larger end diameter
- Take shallow depths of cut
