Lathe Chuck Sizes & Serrations

MATCHING CHUCK SIZES & JAW SERRATIONS

Before selecting the jaw type that is right for you, it is important to match the jaw size to your lathe chuck diameter, and to the serrations of that chuck. Haas Tooling offers jaws for lathe chucks ranging from 5" (135 mm) - 15" (381 mm) in diameter, and all of our jaws have 1.5 mm x 60° serrations, which are compatible with most CNC lathe chucks.

*These jaws are for hydraulic power chucks with fine jaw serrations.  These are standard on Haas ST and DS models.  Haas Toolroom Lathes, TL-1 and TL-2, use manual scroll-type chucks with different jaws.

WHAT HAAS TOOLING JAW TYPE DO I NEED?

Picking the right jaw type for your workholding application can be tough. To make it easier, review the 3 lathe jaw types that Haas Tooling offers. Also, remember that these jaw types are machinable for your specific part clamping needs.

Standard Point Jaws

  • Pointed ends allow better clamping on smaller diameter parts
  • Suitable for most workholding applications
  • Great for smaller diameter parts
  • Available in steel and aluminum

Standard Flat Jaws

  • High surface contact for better part gripping and higher accuracy
  • Machinable to a precise diameter for your application
  • Available in steel and aluminum

Round/Pie Jaws

  • Almost 360° of surface contact for maximum part gripping and accuracy
  • Machinable for your specific part application
  • Great for large-diameter, thin-section, and non-cylindrical parts
  • Available in aluminum only

Aluminum or Steel?

WHICH MATERIAL SHOULD I USE WHEN CLAMPING MY PART?

Aluminum

  • Should be used to hold aluminum or softer parts, like brass or copper
  • Great for prototyping parts
  • Capable of holding small, thin, steel parts with a better grip

Soft Steel

  • High durability for large-volume production runs
  • Will not deform as easily as other materials
  • Should be used when clamping harder and stronger materials
  • Can still be machined to your part applications
