Shell Mill Holders
These high-quality shell mill toolholders are constructed of hardened alloy steel, and designed to hold a wide variety of arbor-style shell mill and face mill cutters. They are balanced to a G2.5 rating at 20,000 rpm, and have removable drive keys for added versatility.
NOTE: These shell mill holders are coolant-through capable. However, the included arbor screws are not coolant-through. You will need to purchase the appropriate coolant-through arbor screw to use through-spindle coolant cutters.
Benefits:
- Constructed of alloy tool steel for long, durable service life
- Hardened to RC 56-60 for long service life
- Black oxide finish for the best combination of accuracy and durability
- Shell mill pilot TIR < .0002"
- Balanced to G2.5 at 20,000 rpm
1. Metric Arbor Screw Torque
For Haas metric tool holders (e.g., CAT40, BT40, or HSK with metric pilots), the arbor screw torque depends on the pilot diameter that fits into the cutter body.
| Pilot Diameter | Typical Thread | Recommended Torque (Nm) | Recommended Torque (ft-lbs) |
| 16 mm | M8 | 25-30 Nm | ~18-22 ft-lbs |
| 22 mm | M10 | 45-60 Nm | ~33-44 ft-lbs |
27 mm | M12 | 75-100 Nm | ~55-74 ft-lbs |
| 32 mm | M16 | 150-200 Nm | ~110-148 ft-lbs |
| 40 mm | M20 | 250-300 Nm | ~184-258 ft-lbs |
Haas generally follows standard industrial torque recommendations based on the arbor (pilot) diameter of the tool holder. Most Haas-branded shell mill holders use either 3/8"-24 or 1/2"-20 UNF arbor screws.
| Arbor Diameter | Common Thread | Recommended Torque |
| 3/4" Arbor | 3/8"-24 UNF | 22 ft-lbs (30Nm) |
| 1.0" Arbor | 1/2"-20 UNF | 45 ft-lbs (61 Nm) |
| 1.25" Arbor | 5/8"-18 UNF | 55 ft-lbs (75Nm) |
| 1.5" Arbor | 3/4"-16 UNF | 55 ft-lbs (75Nm) |
| 2.0" Arbor | 1"-14 UNF | 60 ft-lbs (81Nm) |
Note: For specific Haas Tooling arbor screws, always ensure the threads are clean and lightly lubricated if specified by the assembly instructions.
