Haas Shrink Fit Machines

  • Interchangeable tool sleeves are easy to change when heating different taper toolholders
  • Fast heating – the eddy current induces heat from the high-frequency magnetic field, for short cycle times and easy operation
  • Higher efficiency – the process is timed to apply enough heat to the toolholder to remove cutting tools, without overheating
  • Cooling unit uses shop air for ease of connectivity and use
  • Clamping range for tool diameters 3 mm to 32 mm
  • Haas shrink-fit holders are available in a wide range of diameters

Benefits of Shrink Fit Tooling:

  • Very low runout (< 0.0001" TIR)
  • Very accurate
  • Very high grip force
  • Small nose diameters for better access
  • Quick tool changeovers
  • Low maintenance
3D Model (ZIP)

Applications:

  • High-volume production
  • High-accuracy machining
  • High spindle speeds and feedrates
  • Long-reach applications
  • Better access for 5-axis machining

USER'S Guide

Technical Details

The HSF-450 is a complete shrink-fit solution that includes everything you need to change over and replace your tools quickly, easily and safely – right out of the box. The Haas HSF-450 will accommodate all the Haas shrink-fit toolholders in ISO30/40/50, and HSK63A taper.

Simply select the tool you want to load into the appropriate shrink fit holder, and with the touch of a button, you’ll have a uniform, rigid grip on your cutting tool, with less than 0.0002" runout – all without wrenches.

To simplify your setup workflow even further, transfer the tool to the Haas Tool Pre-Setter to set your length offsets, and then you’re ready to load the tool into your machine and run!

The Haas HSF-450 Includes:

  • 4 Tool Sleeves
  • 4 Tool Heating Sleeves
  • Accessory Tray
  • User’s manual

Tool adapters support (holder support):

  • ISO30 - CT30, SK30, BT30
  • ISO40 - CT40, SK40, BT40
  • ISO50 - CT50, SK50, BT50
  • HSK63A

Recommended for carbide cutting tools only.

Reduce Setup Errors

Tired of spending too much time removing tools from over-tightened, worn-out clamping systems?

Toolholder clamping systems that involve threads increase the chances of over- or under-tightening the tool. Under-tightening can result in the tool moving and breaking while cutting, and over-tightening may result in rounded or stripped screws, clamps, or wrenches, all of which require time to fix. The HSF-450 eliminates these issues, and ensures that cutting tools are always clamped correctly and securely, regardless of the user.

Not only does the HSF-450 allow you to load tools into the holders quickly, but removing them is just as fast and easy. Because the expansion rate of the holder is much higher than that of the cutting tool, simply follow the same process to heat the holder, and in a few seconds, the tool will be free to remove easily, with no effort.

There are no other clamping methods that grip the tool 360° around the shank in the holder. This creates an average gripping force that is more than double that of collet chucks and other similar clamping systems.

And due to the uniform heating and cooling process of the holder, the runout of the tool is guaranteed to be 0.0002" or better. This eliminates balance issues at high speeds, and can increase tool life considerably.

Low Maintenance

Toolholder and cutting tool maintenance.

Although toolholder and cutting tool maintenance are minimal, they are critical to ensuring long life. Simply make sure the contact surfaces of your holder and cutting tool are clean and free of oil, debris, and defects before using the unit.

HSF-450 Controls

The HSF-450’s simple touchscreen display allows the user to select either manual or automatic mode. In auto mode, simply enter the diameter of the tool within a range from 3 mm to 32 mm diameter, and the toolholder head type, and then one button push starts a timed heat cycle. Another button push starts the timed cool down to lower your tool into the coolant spray chamber. No technical questions or formulas are needed to work out times and temperature settings for the user.

For operators who use this unit frequently, manual mode is a quick option to manually heat and cool the toolholder, by inputting the desired time value for each cycle.
