Cobalt Jobber-Length Drills

Jobber-length drills are the most common, general-purpose drills. They feature a long length compared to their diameter, and offer a good balance of strength and accuracy for drilling in a wide range of materials. Available in fractional, letter, number, and metric sizes.

 

These drills are constructed of 8% cobalt high-speed steel (HSSCo8), which is harder than standard high-speed steel (HSS), and provides better wear resistance and higher hardness. They feature a 135° split point* and 30° flute helix, and are suitable for drilling steel and stainless steel, with secondary applications in cast iron, aluminum, and high-temp alloys. The TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating adds lubricity, and increases hardness and heat resistance, allowing these drills to run at higher speeds and feeds than HSS.

 

Cobalt drills are less expensive than carbide, are less prone to chipping, and may be resharpened to extend their life.

 

NOTE: A spot drill is recommended to ensure accurate hole locations.
