EDM-2000H, Portable EDM Tap Remover
Portable EDM Machine
The Haas EDM-2000H is a high-powered electrical discharge machine (EDM) designed for the removal of broken taps, drills, reamers, screws, plug gauges, and other metallic obstructions, without damaging the workpiece. It is suitable for components of diverse sizes, and is particularly effective for large machine parts, where traditional removal methods may be impractical or risk further damage.
This machine features a split-structure design, consisting of a separate chassis and storage box, which enhances operational flexibility, accessibility, and convenience.
Product Highlights:
- Compact and portable – ideal for moving between workstations or job sites.
- Non-destructive process – does not damage original workpiece.
- Adjustable work head – work head can mount on any magnetic surface, and rotate in multiple directions to access complex geometries.
- Stainless steel chuck – able to clamp 1 to 10 mm electrodes.
- Two modes for working fluid delivery – through the electrode chuck or using the flexible hose with magnetic base.
- Auto retracting work head – work head will auto retract after the depth locking screw reaches zero.
- Capable of removing taps from M2 to M30 (5/64" – 1-3/16")
- Vibration mode – perfect for removing taps faster from non-critical holes.
- Brass electrodes
- Round Electrodes: 1 to 5 mm (0.039" - 0.197")
- Sheet Electrodes: 10 mm x 2 mm (0.394" x 0.079")
Compact & Portable
EDM-2000H features a split-structure design consisting of the power box and integrated case
The power box is the main unit that controls the work head. This unit comes with a carrying handle to allow easy transport of the power box. The power box contains the controls for operating the work head, and can be placed anywhere that doesn’t interfere with the workpiece.
The integrated case can be removed by undoing the latches on the front and back. The case contains the work head, as well as the electrode chuck, a flex hose with magnetic base, an electrode set, a magnetic base for the work head (along with aluminum cross connector), a water pump with hose, a wrench, and cable connections to power the unit.
Non-Destructive Process
Remove broken tools and taps without damaging the original workpiece.
Broken taps, drills, and similar tools have a solid center, which allows the EDM-2000H to drill out the central portion. The EDM uses spark erosion to erode the center of the broken tool without applying a large amount of force.
Eroding just the center of the broken tool ensures the workpiece stays untouched. As a result, the original threaded hole can be salvaged, allowing a new tap to chase the threads. This process is useful in saving expensive workpieces, and reduces damage to the original workpiece compared to other extraction processes, such as drilling and grinding.
